Belur & Halabid

Belur and Halabid in Karnataka, South India are the glorious towns of the former Hoysala empire. The imposing Hoyasaleswara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva is today the center of attraction here.

 

The building of the temple was started in 1121 A.D. by Ketamalla a general of King Vishnu Vardhana of the Hoysala Dynasty. The temple is decorated with sculptures depicting scenes from the epic Ramayana
